Hi La Cumbre Comminity,
I hope that you all had a restful and family Thanksgiving, along with the extra days off. In the 2 short days before the break, both 7th and 8th graders had an all day science trip, and lunchtime was taken up with the pumpkin pie eating contest. 7th graders also took the California Healthy Kids Survey on Tuesday. There are 3 weeks before the winter break, with mid-quarter progress reports entered by teachers this coming Friday.
La Cumbre Night at San Marcos Boys Basketball game - Tuesday, November 29th at 7 p.m. Students just need to show their school ID for free admission.
Don't miss the La Cumbre Band, Drumline and Drill Team in the upcoming parades. This coming Friday at 6:30 p.m. on State Street - we are number 22, and Saturday, December 10 on Milpas Street at 11:30 a.m.
WINTER FESTIVAL - The La Cumbre PTA invites you to its Winter Festival on Friday, December 9th from 5 - 9 p.m. at Earl Warren Showgrounds. There will be food, live music, dancing, games, a silent auction, and fun for the entire family. If you are able to donate prizes, food or help to cook, please contact Mike Alvarez, Asst. Principal, at 687-0761 ext. 200. This is a family event that will be great for our community.
The PTA needs your help. The items below are needed on December 9 for The Winter Festival. Please let us know which of the following items you can sign up for:
- Main Dish for 20 (pozole, tamales, enchiladas, lasagna, chicken. taquitos, other )
- Salads for 20 (potato salad, green salad, fruit salad).
- Side dishes for 20 (Salsa, beans, rice, vegetables).
- Desserts for 20 (cakes, pies, flan, cookies, brownies).
- Drinks for 20 (water bottles, cans of soda)
- Restaurant donations for 20.
- Silent Auction Items (gift certificates, electronics).
- Volunteers (Set up & decorate, Clean up).
PIQE is back!! The Parent Institute for Quality Education will be held again this year, starting on January 24. This 9 week program (every Tuesday from 5:30 - 7 p.m.) helps parents understand the educational system, the teenage brain, and requirements in high school needed for educational opportunities beyond high school. The free program for parents is given in Spanish or English, and space will be very limited this year. Parents completing the program will earn a certificate of admission from the 23 California State University campuses of guaranteed admission upon eligibility in 12th grade. Yes, guaranteed college admission!! Free childcare is provided.
Can you help?? 3rd Annual PJ's & Socks Drive for men, women and children to be donated to Casa Esperanza and Transition House. New PJ's and socks can be dropped off at the counseling office until Friday, December 16th. Please see the attached flyer.

- Friday, December 2 - Twin Day - Students dress up as twins.
- Friday, December 2 - Mid-Quarter Progress Report grades entered by teachers.
- Friday, December 2 – State Street Holiday Parade – La Cumbre Band, Drill Team & Drumline to perform.
- Monday, December 5 - Language Exploratory rotation changes.
- Friday, December 9 - PTA Winter Festival for the whole family - 5 - 9 p.m. at Earl Warren Showgrounds.
- Saturday, December 10 - Milpas Street Parade - 11 a.m.
- Tuesday, December 13 - Movie/Activity Day - No 7th Period.
- Tuesday, December 13 - Pantry Program - 3:30 - 5 in the Multi-purpose Quad.
- Tuesday, December 13 - BMX Bike Show sponsored by ASB for those students who sold items from the Delights catalog.
- Tuesday, December 13 – Thrive Westside Parent Input Group – 5 – 7 p.m. in Room 104.
- Friday, December 16 - Pajama Day - Students wear PJ's to school.
- Friday, December 16 – Homeroom Competition – Donut eating contest.
- Friday, December 16 - Harvest of the Month - Persimmons.
- December 17 - January 2 - Winter Break - Classes resume on Tuesday, January 3.
- Friday, January 20 - Minimum Day - End of Semester - All students dismissed at 11:20.
- Friday, January 20 - Zero Period Musical Show in the Theater at 7 p.m.
- Tuesday, January 24 – PIQE starts – 5:30 – 7 in the Theater.
- Thursday, January 26 PIQE - Parent Institute for Quality Education.
- Wednesday, February 1 - Open House for incoming 7th grade families.
- Sunday, February 12 – Los Lonely Boys benefit concert 8 p.m. in the Theater.
