Hi La Cumbre Comminity,
On behalf of students and staff, we'd like to extend a huge thanks to Nancy Singleman for organizing the Strumming for Kids benefit held on Friday night at the Creekside Inn. Thanks to all who attended and participated. A special thanks to Nancy Mathison, Drumline teacher, and to the La Cumbre Drumline, who performed at the event. It was also great to see former La Cumbre music students performing in various bands.
Career Day on Tuesday was a huge success! Thanks to all of you parents who donated your time to share your careers with students, who were exposed to 4 different careers during the morning. Evaluation forms from students clearly favored more career days this year, and we are planning for another 2 days. A big thanks to Rosemary Cordero, Head Counselor, who coordinated the event. If you didn't have a chance to participate or would like to present to a different group of students, please contact Rosemary at rcordero@sbsdk12.org for future events.
Also during the past week, the PTA, GATE parents, Autism Society, ELAC met last week, the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy presented to 8th grade Algebra classes, 15 students were recognized at the VIP luncheon on Thursday, and kiwis were featured for the Harvest of the month on Friday. We ended the week with our Renaissance Awards assembly, where more than half of the students were recognized for outstanding academic performance of a B average or better for the first quarter. The assembly concluded with hilarious dance routines by staff, who performed to their "favorite" songs, dressed in costumes. Be sure to ask your student about the outrageous performances.
With next week being a short week, we have scheduled schoolwide science field trips for grade levels through a marine science grant with UCSB. . Students not on the homework list will take part during the school day, 7th grade on Monday and 8th grade on Tuesday.
WINTER FESTIVAL - The La Cumbre PTA invites you to its Winter Festival on Friday, December 9th from 5 - 9 p.m. at Earl Warren Showgrounds. There will be food, live music, dancing, games, a silent auction, and fun for the entire family. If you are able to donate prizes, food or help to cook, please contact Mike Alvarez, Asst. Principal, at 687-0761 ext. 200. This is a family event that will be great for our community.

- Monday, November 21 - Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest for 8th Grade at lunch in the Quad.
- Tuesday, November 22 - Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest for 7th Grade at lunch in the Quad.
- Tuesday, November 22 - California Healthy Kids Survey administered to 7th graders in the computer labs during the day.
- Tuesday, November 22 - Thrive Westside parent and community input meeting - 5 - 7 p.m. in Room 104.
- Wednesday – Friday, November 23-25 – Thanksgiving Recess – No School.
- Friday, December 2 - Mid-Quarter Progress Report grades entered by teachers.
- Friday, December 2 – State Street Holiday Parade – La Cumbre Band, Drill Team & Drumline to perform.
- Monday, December 5 - Language Exploratory rotation changes.
- Friday, December 9 - PTA Winter Festival for the whole family - 5 - 9 p.m. at Earl Warren Showgrounds.
- Saturday, December 10 - Milpas Street Parade - 11 a.m.
- Tuesday, December 13 - Movie/Activity Day - No 7th Period.
- Tuesday, December 13 - Pantry Program - 3:30 - 5 in the Multi-purpose Quad.
- Tuesday, December 13 - BMX Bike Show.
- December 17 - January 2 - Winter Break - Classes resume on Tuesday, January 3.
- Friday, January 20 - Minimum Day - End of Semester - All students dismissed at 11:20.
- Friday, January 20 - Zero Period Musical Show in the Theater at 7 p.m.
- Thursday, January 26 PIQE - Parent Institute for Quality Education.
- Wednesday, February 1 - Open House for incoming 7th grade families.
- Sunday, February 12 – Los Lonely Boys benefit concert 8 p.m. in the Theater.
