Weekly Update #12
October 30, 2011
Hi La Cumbre Comminity,
We certainly ended the month with a big bang. Over the past week, the Autism Society provided their first training on Tuesday evening regarding Special Education and IEP's (next training is November 15), and we ended the week with students and staff wearing costumes to school and a costume contest during lunch on Friday. Honestly, I think the staff gets more into wearing costumes than the students as evidenced by the attached picture. We all had a great time. The weekend also brought the Haunted Halls of La Cumbre to life on Friday and Saturday nights. Friday was the end of the 1st quarter (no Homework List this week), and grades will be sent home within the next week and a half. Overall, students are working hard and doing a great job. Please call or email your student's teachers if you have any questions or concerns.
UCLA Football is coming - next Saturday, November 5th. Permission slips are in the office, and the whole family is welcome to attend. The bus leaves at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with college activities beginning at the Rose Bowl at 1:30 (do you know the UCLA chant?) and the game at 4:30. All of the activities and the game are free for the family with a request of $10 donation for transportation. Teachers Ms. Filipko and Ms. Caiazza are the group leaders.
La Cumbre Jog-a-Thon is coming - Friday, November 4th for students, and Saturday, November 5th for adults....yes, adults too. Please support this fundraising event by the La Cumbre Junior High School Foundation. It's fun for the whole family. Packets were sent home, and extras are available in the office. We need your support!!
The Evening Program is going strong. Monday - Thursday, 5 - 7 p.m., where childcare is free, tutoring and computer access for students, and activities for the adults, including technology, Zumba, kick boxing, weight training, sewing, cooking, carpentry, and English classes. Please see the attached flyer for more information. It's a great time for the entire family.
PTA Poinsettia Sale starts Tuesday, November 1st. These beautiful plants are $10 and make great home decorations or gifts. Students will be bringing home information and an order form.
