Weekly Update #10

October 16, 2011

Hi La Cumbre Comminity,

Yes, we survived the hottest week in recent memory!! Students were permitted to walk during Run Day in PE to avoid any problems. Also last week, ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee) met on Monday, we had the Foodbank Pantry Program on Tuesday, we hosted a Special Ed Parent presentation on Wednesday evening with the La Cumbre parent rep Marcia Eichelberger, held our postponed Walk to School Day on Thursday morning with entertainment from the band and drumline, Dr. Cash, new Superintendent, visited La Cumbre on Thursday and went into every classroom in the school to observe instruction, and we ended up the week with make-up picture day in the morning and another shuffling dance competition during lunch in the Quad.

I want to thank you parents for keeping up to date with your student's academic progress through Edline, teacher calls home, Homework List calls on Friday evening, visits to school, and through teacher emails. It is our goal to keep you informed about how your student is doing in school. We are approaching the end of the first quarter on October 28th, and we continue to offer assistance or a place to work before school, during lunch, after school, and in the evening Monday - Thursday from 5 - 7. Teachers regularly print out grade status reports for students with an itemized list of assignments and grades. Please ask your student to see these reports.

Many thanks to those who are donating plants to the school. Saturday School students planted many of them on Saturday, and we are really pleased with the improved look of the outside area. You are welcome to drop off plants any school day between 8 - 4. If you call us from the parking lot, we will be happy to unload them.

IMPORTANT REMINDER - Please, please, DO NOT drop off or pick up students on Modoc Road. The few seconds you think you save could result in tragedy. Please pull into the parking lot, so that students are safe, protected, and supervised.

We postponed our first Career Day until November 15th, so if you were unable to volunteer in October, we'd love to have you share about careers in your field in November from 8:45 - 11:15. Please contact counselor Rosemary Cordero at rcordero@sbsdk12.org if you are interested. Thanks.
